"The Train" has most often
been considered to be "The Daylighter" by most who remember it's time in service and
those who are train enthusiasts. The Southern Pacific streamline Daylight began
running in March, 1937, hauled by the GS-2 steam locomotives. The Coast
Daylight continued to run behind steam until January 7, 1955, long after most
streamliners had been powered by diesel.
